AA Badenhorst Raaigras Grenache — Single Vineyard, Swartland
The Raaigras Grenache is one of Adi Badenhorst's single-vineyard expressions — a pure Grenache from a named parcel of old bush vines in the Swartland, one of South Africa's most exciting wine regions. AA Badenhorst is known for minimal-intervention winemaking that lets the terroir speak, and this wine is a masterclass in restraint and place.
Vibrant red fruit — raspberry, pomegranate, red cherry — with earthy, garrigue-like complexity: dried herbs, fynbos and a hint of white pepper. Light-bodied yet deeply flavourful, with silky tannins and a long, savoury finish. This is a wine for contemplation — it rewards patience and careful attention.
Exceptional with charcuterie and biltong (the South African pairing), roast lamb, Mediterranean vegetable dishes or aged hard cheeses. Serve slightly chilled (14–16°C) to accentuate the freshness and fruit purity. Decanting for 30 minutes opens up the aromatics beautifully.
