Kanonkop Kadette Pinotage — South Africa's Signature Grape
Pinotage is South Africa's own grape variety — a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, created in 1925 at Stellenbosch University. Kanonkop is widely regarded as the greatest Pinotage producer in the country, and the Kadette is the entry point to their legendary range. If you want to understand what great Pinotage tastes like, start here.
Dark, juicy and full of personality: black cherry, plum, chocolate, mocha and a hint of the distinctive smoky, earthy character that makes Pinotage unique. The tannins are soft and approachable, with a smooth, medium-bodied palate that finishes clean. This is Pinotage at its most charming and accessible.
Pairs beautifully with braai (it was born for it), biltong, slow-cooked meats, burgers and mature cheddar. Pinotage and barbecue is one of the world's great food-wine pairings. Serve at 16–18°C.
