Meerlust Rubicon — Iconic Bordeaux-Style Cape Blend

Rubicon is one of South Africa's original icon wines — a Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc from the historic Meerlust Estate, first produced in 1980. Named after Julius Caesar's famous crossing of the Rubicon river (a point of no return), this wine marked Meerlust's commitment to producing world-class blends from the Cape.

Complex and structured: blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco, dark chocolate and subtle earthy notes from the Stellenbosch terroir. The tannins are firm and fine-grained, the acidity is fresh, and the oak is beautifully integrated from extended barrel ageing. Rubicon is built to age — but even in youth, it shows the breeding and poise of a serious wine.

Pairs with premium red meats: dry-aged steak, lamb rack, oxtail and venison. A wine for special occasions and cellar-building. Decant for at least 1–2 hours before serving. Serve at 16–18°C.
