AA Badenhorst Family Red Wine — Swartland Blend
The AA Badenhorst Family Red is one of the Cape's most celebrated red blends — a multi-variety field blend from old bush vines across the Swartland. Adi Badenhorst and his cousin Hein craft this wine with minimal intervention: natural fermentation, old oak barrels, no fining or filtration. The result is a wine of extraordinary complexity and character.
Rich and layered with dark fruit — blackberry, plum, fig — interwoven with spice, earth, leather and a distinctive Swartland minerality. The tannins are firm but polished, the acidity is fresh, and the finish is long and savoury. This is a serious wine that stands alongside the Cape's finest at a fraction of the price.
Perfect with red meat: braai steaks, slow-cooked brisket, oxtail stew or a biltong and cheese board. Decant for at least 1 hour before serving — this wine opens up dramatically with air. Serve at 16–18°C.
